Introduction

This course explores the interlinakges of local issues and its implications at the global level, with respect to three key stakeholders: governments, businesses, and civil society

The course looks at global environmental policies as a 3x3 "policy matirx" of issues consisting of (1) global, (2) national and (3) local issues on one side, and the role of (1) goverments, (2) businesses and (3) civil society at these three levels. Issues related to governance, education, technology and finance are covered in each of the mattrix's cells.

It also specifically fcusses on the role of the United Nations and its various organizations in global environmental policy and management. Examples from environmental problems faced by low-income and developing countries will be used to understand the subject.
